Born in Boston, daughter of the late Earle and Margaret M. (Sullivan) Larkin, she was a lifelong resident of Fairhaven and grew up on Chestnut Street.
Mrs. Messier was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and Kinyon Campbell Business School. After raising her children, she had worked as a billing clerk for several years.
Kathleen volunteered at East Fairhaven School as a cafeteria worker and library aide. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing scrabble and solitaire, and doing crossword and regular puzzles. She was an avid animal lover, and had many, many cats and a couple of dogs in her life. She even had a squirrel friend that would come see her everyday at one point. She was someone who always welcomed any and all children into her home. Everyone in the neighborhood knew they were welcomed at Kitty’s house. She was especially known for her amazing wit and great sense of humor.
She is survived by her children, Brian Messier and his wife Erin of Fairhaven and Beth Rogers and her husband John of Saugus; four grandchildren, John Rogers, Jr., Nicolas Rogers, Aiden and Emily Messier; three brothers, Daniel Larkin and his wife Carol, Robert Larkin and his wife Sherrie and John “Jack” Larkin and his wife Susan; nine nieces and nephews, Eileen, Erin, Rosemary, Christopher, Jenee, Alexa, Julie, Heather and Kathleen “Kitty”; and numerous cousins.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven.
