Morris Vaughn Pyle III was a brother, husband, father and grandfather born to Barbara Ryan and Morris Vaughn Pyle II on February 18th, 1953 in Houston, Texas. Morris, more affectionately known as “Mo” to those close to him, spent his formative years in Houston as a high school and collegiate student-athlete and received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Texas Southern University.
Upon graduation, Morris was hired by KHOU-TV in Houston as a photographer. For the next 30 years Mo would build a respected television news career, going on to win a News & Documentary Emmy Award for WSB-TV in Atlanta and eventually becoming Assistant News Director for the NBC news affiliate WFLA-TV in Tampa Bay.
He was an avid golfer, gun enthusiast, jazz enthusiast and member of the National Association of Black Journalist.
On January 31st, 1976, Morris married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Edwards. From this beautiful union came three children – Morris V. Pyle IV, Christena J. Pyle, and Shayla N. Pyle. Morris was a big hearted man who never met a stranger and treated everyone as a neighbor. He gave more than he took and believed that you can take and give only from an open hand connected to an open heart.
Morris was a perpetual student, voracious reader, and believed in the undeniable power of education. He taught as an adjust professor at Boston University, belonged to the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and mentored countless young professionals.
Of his many accomplishments, Morris was most proud of the family and friends that loved and surrounded him. He believed that a heart is not only filled by how much it is loved but by how much love it gives. Morris was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
He is predeceased by his parents Barbara and Morris V. Pyle, II and is survived by his wife Joyce E. Pyle, son Morris V. Pyle, IV, daughters Christena J. Pyle and Shayla N. Pyle, brother Phillip Pyle and two grandchildren; Alexis Pyle and Morris V. Pyle, V.
The family will greet family and friends on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m., both at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, FL 33511 PH: 813.689.8121
