Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm in the Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Director’s Pioneer Chapel, 5400 Bell Ave. in Amarillo. A celebration of Russell’s life will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 10am in the Trinity Fellowship Student Ministry Building, 5000 Hollywood Rd.; with Kyle Wilkinson presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Garden of Faith.
Russ was born in Falfurrias, Texas on July 24, 1948 to George Howard and Jannie Francis (Cornforth) Perkins. Russ lived a life full of love and humor. After graduating from High School in Hawaii, Russ joined the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he married Sheri Hedrick, on July 1, 1972. He then obtained his master’s degree in Geology from Idaho State University. Together, he and Sheri produced four amazingly brilliant children. He has resided in Amarillo, Texas for the past 35 years. Russ was loved by all who had the honor of knowing him. Russ fiercely loved his family, humbly served his Lord, was a friend to dozens, brother to four, and a hard-working employee.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents and father in law Sam Hedrick. Those left to cherish Russ’s memories are his beloved Sheri Perkins of Amarillo, son Matt Perkins of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, daughters Callie Roberts of San Antonio, Texas, Erin Meyers of Goodyear, Arizona, and Lori Vinson of Amarillo, Texas; Grandchildren Mason Perkins, Asher Perkins, McKenna Perkins, Samara Roberts, Josiah Roberts, Gideon Roberts, Miriam Roberts, Alea Meyers, Benton Meyers, Titan Meyers, August Vinson, and AshLynn Vinson. Russ also leaves behind his Mother in Law, Billie Hedrick, Brothers Malcolm Perkins of Spokane, Washington, and David Perkins of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Sisters Debra Jennings of Alamogordo, New Mexico and Teresa Young of Sawyer, Oklahoma as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
