Les lived in Craig all his life. He participated in boxing, football and basketball in high school. After graduating from high school he worked with his father and brother “Frank” at Cooney and Balleck Excavating. Later he started his own business of Les Cooney Construction. After he retired and sold his dozer, he continued to do some part time dozer work for other construction companies for several years. He also worked for Jerry Thompson driving truck during harvest and transporting vehicles for both Craig Ford and Victory Motors. Les was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the BPO Elks #1577. Throughout his life his love of sports was ever present. He was a follower of the broncos, Rockies and Nuggets. He enjoyed supporting the local Craig High School football and basketball teams. Fishing, Bowling and golf were sports he enjoyed during his lifetime. Les was married to JoAnn Deyo. They had three children, Angie, Lance and Karen. He later married Beth Morgan and had 2 stepchildren Robin and Rod. From these unions there are 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He very much loved being a grandpa to all. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Memorial donations can be made to The Boys and Girls Club here in Craig in care of Grant Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2019, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Craig. Interment will follow at Craig Cemetery.
