“Libby” Murphy, 73, of Ormond Beach, Florida, was released from her bondage to a debilitating brain condition and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 21, 2019.
She is survived by her devoted husband and caregiver Neill C “Mike” Murphy and loving daughters (and husbands) Michelle Tate (Jonathan) New Orleans, LA, Katie Rush (Courtney) Merritt Island, FL, Lauren Clemons (Andrew) Madison, AL and 5 grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Rhea T “Van” Van Arsdall (Martha) Lakeland, FL, Cora Hall (Jim) Huntsville, AL, and Margaret (Doug) Cavinder South Daytona, FL and many nieces and nephews. Libby was born in Hopkinsville, KY, to Rhea and Mary Elizabeth Van Arsdall on November 22, 1945. The family moved to Ormond Beach in 1950. They were charter members of Ormond Beach First United Methodist Church. She attended Mainland HS, class of ’63, and the University of Florida obtaining a Bachelors degree in Interior Design. After her marriage to Mike in 1971, they moved to Huntsville AL, and was Executive Director of Murphy Home Enterprises, raising her children and husband. Later in life she was a Kennedy Space Center tour bus driver and a school bus driver for Madison, AL, city schools. She loved the Lord Jesus and sharing her faith, always seeing God’s miracles in the smallest details. She was a mighty prayer warrior. She enjoyed an active life until 4 years ago and was able to serve on mission trips to Honduras in 2011 and 2012. She enjoyed tennis, dancing and her family. Services will be held at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N. Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, Fl, 32174 for family and friends on Wednesday, November 27, 2019. We request in lieu of flowers to donate to His Hands Mission International, building water filters in Honduras, www.hishands.ws.
