She was born July 10, 1930 to Henry and Mae Myers in Salem, Arkansas. After her retirement, Dorene traveled to 42 states on vacation and saved the itinerary and photos for the many stops along the way. She also read 4 to 5 books a week from the North Kansas City Library. The librarians would hold books aside from her favorite Christian authors; after a decade of reading, she slowed down to only 2 books a week because her authors just couldn’t keep up. She made an index card file for each author and kept track of every book she read. Dorene was a volunteer with North Kansas City Hospital and North Kansas City Community Center making Cancer Pads for Cancer Patients, packing care packages for Soldiers and families in the Greater Kansas City Area. She was also very active in the churches missionary program, sending cards to all of our Northland Cathedral Missionaries and hosting events including Women’s Ministry. She would show up and participate in the church’s workdays and would be found helping in the churches nursey on Wednesday nights. If the church was open she was there working and helping.
Dorene was preceded in death by her parents; special friend, Smith Clark; her sisters, Ina Vorwark and Kathy Jones.
Survivors include her children, Kim (Jon) Norris and Geoffrey (Lisa) Clark; her siblings, Wayne (Deanne) Myers, Ruth Upchurch, Henrietta Pryor; and numerous nieces & nephews and extended family.
