On behalf of the family, we regretfully issue notice that our Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather, Professor, and Army Captain (POW)
Tai Duc Tu
Mr. Tai Duc Tu, age 82, of Portland, Oregon, passed peacefully in his sleep along aside his beloved family in the morning of Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 03:49am. Mr. Tu was born on September 3, 1938 in Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan, Vietnam to parents, Ba Van Tu and Chut Thi Tran. Mr. Tu was the 7th of 13 children.
Tai Duc Tu dedicated his life to his love for the community, education and protection of birth country, Vietnam. Mr. Tu taught mathematics at private high schools in Phan Thiet and Song Mao, Vietnam (1959-1966).
Mr. Tu was the Artillery Officer for South Vietnamese Army, Fire Support Officer, Fire Support Coordination Center; Artillery Headquarter of the 23rd Infantry Division. He served as a Prisoner of War (POW) at POW Camp 8 and Re-Education Camp A 30 from from June 1975 to October 1981.
On July 23, 1991, Mr. Tu and his family were granted entry for United States of America and moved to Portland, Oregon.

Được gia đình và bạn bè yêu mến trên thế giới, Từ Đức Tài đã dành cả cuộc đời và tình yêu của mình cho cộng đồng, nền giáo dục và bảo vệ đất tổ Việt Nam. Có tài về toán học và ngôn ngữ, Ông Tài đã dạy môn toán tai các trường trung học tư thục ở Sông Mao, Thanh Hải và Phan Thiết Việt Nam (1959-1966).Ông Tài thông thạo tiếng Anh, tiếng Việt và biết đàm thoại tiếng Pháp, tiếng Tàu. Ông Tài thích viết văn, làm thơ rất hay bằng ngòi bút hoàn hảo của mình.
Tình yêu tổ quốc của Ông đã được biểu lộ khi gia nhập Quân Đội Việt Nam Cộng Hòa (03/02/1966).Ông đã đươơc đánh gía cao là người đàn ông của nguyên tắc, danh dự, và dũng cảm ở miền nam Việt Nam với tư cách là sĩ quan trung tâm điều phối pháo binh hỗ trợ hỏa lực, Sở chỉ huy pháo binh của Sư Đoàn 23 Bộ Binh(04/12/1975). Ông Tài là trưởng nhóm của Hội sĩ quan pháo binh Việt Nam 22. Ông tự hào phục vụ chín năm từ 1966-1975 với tư cách là đội trưởng quân đội(POW).
Sau khi chiến tranh Việt Nam chấm dứt, Ông Tài là tù nhân chiến tranh tại trại cải tạo A30 từ 19/06/1975 đến tháng 10 1981.Khi ra tù Ông Tài làm ở hợp tác xã muối và xây dựng nhà ở Phan Thiết Việt Nam trong gần một thế kỷ, cho đến ngày 7 tháng 5 1991 Vào ngày 23 tháng 7 năm 1991.
Ông Tài và gia đình được cấp phép nhập cảnh vào Portland OR Hoa Kỳ. Ông Tài đã đoàn tụ với gia đình hai anh em và là người đã bảo lảnh Ông.
Ông Tài sống ở Portland OR trong 29 năm, với sự nghiệp thứ hai/ ba/ bốn là trợ giảng của trường tiểu học Vesta(1991-1993), công nhân của Foster Farm(1994-1996) và Nike(1996-2015). Trong thời gian hưư trí từ 2015 đến 2020 Ông Tài rất thích kết nối với bạn bè, học trò từ khắp nơi trên thế giới,đi khắp thế giới và đến các công viên quốc gia ở Mỹ. Ông Tài tự hào khi chứng kiến những đứa cháu của mình lớn lên và thích dành thời gian giá trị với chúng
Ông Tài là tình nguyện viên trong cộng đồng người Việt Oregon và là thành viên của nhóm thơ Ngàn Thông.
Linh hồn của Ông Tài sẽ sống mãi mãi trong những người thân yêu của mình trên toàn cầu. Chúng tôi sẽ nhớ mãi và tôn vính sự sang chói, hào hiệp và tình yêu của Ông dành cho nhân loại.

Beloved by family and friends across the globe, Tai Duc Tu dedicated his life to his love for the community, education and protection of birth country, Vietnam. Talented in mathematics and language, Mr. Tu taught mathematics at private high schools in Phan Thiet and Song Mao, Vietnam (1959-1966). Mr. Tu was fluent in English, Vietnamese and knew conversational French and Chinese. Mr. Tu enjoyed writing beautiful Vietnamese prose and poems with his near perfect penmanship.
Mr. Tu’s love for his birthplace was exhibited in his public service when he joined the former Army of Republic of Vietnam (03/02/1966). He was highly regarded as man of principles, honor and valor in South Vietnam as the Artillery Officer for South Vietnamese Army, Fire Support Officer, Fire Support Coordination Center; Artillery Headquarter of the 23rd Infantry Division (04/30/1975). Mr. Tu was team leader of the Association of Former Army of Vietnam’s Artillery Cadet Course 22. He proudly served for nine years from 1966 - 1975 as the artillery Captain, and after the Vietnam War he was sent to many POW camps for almost 7 years by North Vietnamese Communists.
Following the end of the Vietnam War, Mr. Tu served as a Prisoner of War (POW) at POW Camp 8 and Re-Education Camp A 30 from June 19, 1975 to October 1981. Upon release, Mr. Tu worked for a cooperation making salt and built residential homes in Phan Thiet, Vietnam for nearly a decade, through July 15, 1991.
On July 23, 1991, Mr. Tu and his family were granted entry for United States of America and moved to Portland, Oregon. Along with his wife and two sons, Mr. Tu reunited with his two brothers and their families, who supported and sponsored their arrival to America.
Mr. Tu lived in the Portland, Oregon for 29 years, with his second/ third/four careers as a teacher’s aid at Vestal Elementary School (1991-1993), a Foster Farm’s employee (1994-1996) and a Nike employee (1996-2015). During his retirement from 2015 through 2020, Mr. Tu enjoyed reconnecting with my friends and students from across the globe, traveled the world and to national parks in America. Mr. Tu took pride in watching his grandchildren grow and enjoyed spending quality time with them.
Mr. Tu was active in the Vietnamese community in Portland as a volunteer for Vietnamese Community of Oregon and a member of “Ngàn Thông” Poetry Group.
Mr. Tu’s spirits live on and will be forever missed by his loved ones across the globe. We will forever remember and honor his brilliance, gallantry and love for humanity.
