Born in Fernand De Ajda, Portugal, he was a son of the late Jose M. and Ines (Paulino) Vieira. Prior to coming to the United States, John proudly served his country in the Portuguese Army. He was employed as a laborer for more than 15 years and employed at Our Lady’s Chapel as a maintenance person.
John enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren more than anything; he enjoyed fishing, playing cards and bowling. He was just an enjoyable person.
He is survived by his children, David Vieira and his wife Vicki of Fairhaven, Elizabeth Duarte and her husband Daniel of New Bedford, Jason Vieira of Mansfield, John and Cheryl Vieira of New Bedford; six grandchildren, Kendra, Jason, Ethan, Tegan and Cameron Vieira and Tesla DeCosta; two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Gavin Armante and many nieces and nephews; and five siblings. He was predeceased by six siblings.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 10:00AM in the WARING- SULLIVAN HOME at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719. Relatives and friends are invited.
