Mary was born May 3, 1931 in Hoboken, New Jersey. Her parents, Edna and John D. Kiely raised Mary and her two siblings in Jamestown, New York. In 1953, Mary moved to Buffalo, New York and married Joseph McHenry, a Buffalo attorney, educator, and Korean War veteran. Throughout their lives, Joseph and Mary's greatest joys were family, church, and travel. They were very active at Saint Joseph University Parish in Buffalo and later at St. James Church in Conway, South Carolina. Joseph passed away in 1995.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, two children, J. Michael McHenry and Mary Hennessy, and their spouses, Eileen McHenry and Joseph Hennessy. Mary was pre-deceased by her brother, Dan Kiely, and her sister, Audrey (Kiely) Peterson. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Marty Peterson, of Rochester, NY.
She also leaves five amazing granddaughters and two of their spouses, Brenna Hennessy and her husband Steve Aureli; Devin (Hennessy) and her husband, Zach Hruby; Erin Hennessy; Sarah McHenry; and Juliana McHenry. Mary loved her granddaughters, as well as her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Mary will always be remembered for her strength, her easy laugh, and her powerful faith. Her love and kindness will forever be with us. Rest for now until we meet again.
Services will be private due to COVID-19. Future memorial services will be announced. All arrangements are entrusted to Wood Funeral Home.
