Janice ascended into heaven on Wednesday May 20, 2020 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Despite the health struggles she has been battling the past few years, her passing was very rapid and unexpected. We are extremely thankful that her last day was filled with happiness and laughter, and it was not a prolonged and painful process for her.
Born on September 24,1962, Janice grew up in a military family spending the early years of her life throughout the US, Japan, and Guam before they settled in Citrus Heights, California. After graduating from Mesa Verde High School in 1980, she attended Sacramento State University where she earned her degree in 1986. She was an accomplished student-athlete on the Hornet basketball and volleyball teams playing on the 1981 National Champion volleyball team, receiving volleyball All-American honors in 1985, and was inducted into the Hornet Volleyball Hall of Fame in 1996.
After meeting her loving husband, Eric, during her final internship in school, Janice joined him in the Navy and served as an Optometrist at Naval Air Station Brunswick until 1994. After completion of their military service, they moved their growing family back to the Sacramento area to be closer to Janice’s parents. Janice opened Glaser Vision Optometry in El Dorado Hills in 2000 and practiced there until the family moved in 2010 to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Though the move limited the scope of optometry she was able to practice, it expanded her opportunities to travel the world allowing her to accrue more stamps on her trips with family and friends than a single passport could hold. In 2019, Janice and Eric moved back to the United States in Louisville, KY. This July would have been their 30th wedding anniversary.
Janice loved life, celebrating those around her and lived by the phrase “every day is a gift.” Her spontaneous and energetic nature was contagious and she had a pool of talents as diverse as the destinations of her travels. She exhibited her talents with a needle and thread making a majority of her clothes as a teenager, halloween costumes for her children, and the bridal and bridesmaid dresses used in her own wedding. Friends and family of Janice will always have memories of her baking prowess from the numerous one-of-a-kind birthday and wedding cakes, delicious desserts to cap off wonderful meals, beautiful loaves of artisan breads, and scratch made sugar cookies and icing for decorating with loved ones. Her crafting would amaze others in her final years with the hand made cards and mementos to commemorate special occasions and life events.
Janice’s greatest love and joy were her two children, Kyle and Jennifer. Janice is preceded in death by her mother Josephine, father James, brother Joe, and sister-in-law Kathy Ster. Because of the current COVID-19 concerns, plans for a celebration of life are pending at this time.
In lieu of flowers, spend time with your family and make sure they know you love them; remembering that every day is a gift.
