Born in Buffalo and raised in Kenmore, she was a graduate of Kenmore High School. Joan earned a nursing degree from Deaconess Hospital where she worked after graduating with honors. She stopped working at Deaconess Hospital to raise her family. In 1977, Joan returned to nursing, working for Dr. Kenneth Eckhert, Sr., for the next 20 years.
Joan met the love of her life, Bob Limburg, on a blind date. Bob and Joan wed on June 28, 1952 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Buffalo. They were married for over 60 years, when Bob passed away in 2012. They moved to Eggertsville where they had their four children, who were the light of her life. In 1966, the Limburgs moved to their home on Geneva Road in East Aurora. In their 47 years on Geneva Road, she greatly enjoyed the many social and family events with their close neighborhood friends. Upon arriving on Geneva Road, Joan quickly earned the title of “neighborhood nurse” offering medical advice and attending to minor cuts and scrapes.

Joan was an avid bridge player, playing with numerous groups. She enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Elma Meadows Womens Golf League. An excellent cook, Joan was known for her delicious almond filled kuchen and German potato salad. A skilled seamstress, she sewed her daughters’ dresses and matching festive pajama’s for Christmas (her favorite holiday). Joan enjoyed traveling with her husband to Europe and all over the United States. After Bob passed away, she continued traveling to visit family and friends around the country. She relished driving her car right up until the last days of her life.
Joan was an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She and her husband were members of the Antique Car Club of America, The Model A Restorers Club, and The Transportation Club of Western NY.
After her husband Bob passed away, Joan moved to the Stonegate Community where she cherished the comradery of her neighbors and community social events. In 2017, Joan moved into the Independent Living Community in Greenfield Manor in Lancaster. She enjoyed card playing and cribbage, as well as attending social events and YMCA exercise classes.
Joan celebrated her 90th birthday in May of this year. Due to the pandemic, the birthday party became a virtual event filled with many celebrations with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. Joan declared that “my birthday was a great day.”
