Gerald Lavon Perrett, Sr., age 81, of White Lake, died Friday, October 16, 2020, at Huron Valley Sinai Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Barbara; his two children: Laura Perrett, and Gerald (Renee) Perrett, II; his grandchildren: Katelyn (Will) and Brendan; and his two siblings: Chuck (Pam) Shepard, and Lenore (Mike) Bell.
Gerry was born July 18, 1939, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, the son of Edgar and Virginia Perrett. He graduated from Milford High School, where he enjoyed playing on the football and track teams, with the class of 1958. After high school, Gerry went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. Gerry met Barbara Fultz at the Walled Lake church of Christ, and shortly after, they were married at the same church on October 6, 1962. Gerry and Barbara shared fifty-eight wonderful years together.
Gerry began his career as a sales representative in 1964, working for a number of different companies, and eventually retired from The Learning Center. Over the years, Gerry was a member of the Walled Lake church of Christ, the Sylvan Lake church of Christ—where he served as an elder for eighteen years—and most recently, a member of the Waterford church of Christ. Because of his generous spirit, Gerry was very passionate about charity work. He contributed annually to numerous charitable organizations, like Shults-Lewis Child and Family Services, and Lads to Leaders & Leaderettes. Gerry organized and participated in the annual telethon for Shults-Lewis Child and Family Services, and he organized their annual commodity drive. In November of 2015, Gerry was given the Trustee Award from Shults-Lewis Child and Family Services for his tremendous service to the organization. He loved preaching a lesson at "the old folks home" as he called it. In his free time, Gerry enjoyed rooting for U of M football and basketball teams, playing golf, and going bowling. Most of all, Gerry treasured his time spent with his family and friends. He particularly enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a wonderful man who will be missed by many.
Gerry was preceded in death by his beloved parents-in-law, Walter and Vivian Fultz; his parents, Edgar and Virginia; his three brothers, Richard, John, and Robert; and his two sisters, Joann and Barbara.
A funeral service will take place at 10:30 am Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Waterford Church of Christ, 4991 Williams Lake Road, Waterford Twp., Michigan 48329.
