Gust Sepeter, age 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 30, 2020. He was born in 1926 in Detroit, MI, to John and Marina Sepeter, who preceded him in death. Gust married Betty Blume in 1952. As they raised a family, he operated his own auto repair garage, Little Cedar Repair.
Gust generously gave of himself to help others. He served Lansing Christian School as Chairman of the Board and maintained the school buses. He was a Sunday School teacher and board member at Inter-City Bible Church and then teacher and mission board member at South Baptist Church. He had a heart for missions and took great joy in sharing his faith in Christ with people around him. In his garage, he led a close friend, Omar, to the Lord while repairing the engine of his car.
During vacation periods, he and his wife Betty made short-term mission trips to Greece and Ireland where he used his mechanical ability to install church sound systems and do other construction or repairs.
Betty died suddenly in 1984. He is survived by their children, Robert (Lisa) Sepeter of Eaton Rapids, Linda (George) Greanias of Arizona, and Carl (Lisa) Sepeter of DeWitt. Additionally there are 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and his sister, Mary Gilpin.
In 1985 Gust married widow, Ilene Titsworth, in Lansing. Gust and Betty had known Ilene and her first husband, Harold, for many years. After a short courtship, Gust and Ilene united the two families. Gust gained three step-children, Mark Titsworth, Avis Titsworth, and Sharon (Richard) Watters.
From a very young age, Gust was fascinated by airplanes. He rode his bike to the Lansing City Airport to watch the mechanics repair airplanes. During WWII Gust was trained as a Navy tail gunner for PB 4Y2 (form of B24) but the war ended before he saw combat.
After retirement, the love of airplanes and machinery led him to volunteer for Mission Aviation Fellowship in Florida. He repaired the vintage DC-3. Gust tirelessly filled many jobs doing other short-term missionary work in Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, Michigan, Ireland, and Greece. For more than 10 summers they volunteered at Camp Barakel in Fairview, MI. Gust repaired the cars and anything else around the campground.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at South Church in Lansing. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Lansing Christian School or Camp Barakel.
