Esperanza “Hope” (San Jose) Casarella, 80, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of Aldo Casarella, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2021. Esperanza was born on March 14, 1940 and raised in Rueda, Spain and was the daughter of the late Angel and Gregoria (Rodriguez) San Jose.
Esperanza moved to Switzerland in 1958 as part of a recruiting program for female workers in the manufacturing industry. It was there that she met her future husband and soulmate, Aldo, in the city of Arbon who had also been recruited from Italy. In 1965 they were married in Parma, Italy then returned to Arbon were they worked for a number of years. They moved to the United States in 1968 with their son settling in Hartford and lived there for many years before moving to the suburbs.
Throughout the years, she held a variety of jobs and worked in different industries, including as a seamstress, pasta maker at Ravioli Kitchen and finally at Stop & Shop in Cromwell where she worked until the beginning of the pandemic. Hope also enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden, she also loved to share her bounty with family and friends. Although her true passion was her family, she was truly a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband Aldo of 55 years, she is survived by her son Gaetano and his wife Lynda of Brooklyn, NY and her daughter Alessandra and her husband Salvatore Terranova of Wethersfield. She is also survived by her five cherished grandchildren, Alexa and Marlena Casarella, of Merrimack, NH and Daniella, Rocco and Dominic Terranova. Esperanza also leaves her brothers, Francisco and Angél, her sisters, Vincenta, Pilar, Fe and Caridad along with her 15 nieces and nephews in Spain, two sisters-in-law and 8 nieces and nephews in Italy. In addition, she is survived by her two nieces; Carmen (Casarella) Del Monaco and her husband Ernesto and two sons, Ryan and Michael of Wethersfield and Lisa Casarella Mooney and her two children, Rachel and Kevin of Newington.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 8th from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Funeral mass will be private. A graveside committal service will be held at 11:30 at Rose Hill Memorial Park, (Section 32) Rocky Hill.
