LaVigne, Brian Roy, 54 of Valrico, FL, was killed in the line of duty with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on January 11, 2021. He was a good man with integrity, strength and a great sense of humor. Born June 6, 1966, Brian was raised in upstate New York. He then moved to Florida in his sophomore year of high school where he met the love of his life, Cathleen. Brian began his 33 year-long career in law enforcement with the Largo Police Department and he then joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 1989. Brian was known for many things. He earned his brown belt in Jiujitsu this past Saturday, January 9, 2021. He also taught himself to speak Spanish fluently, was a certified Spanish translator, and was learning French. He taught himself the bagpipes and was in the process of learning the tin whistle, which was a gift he had received for Christmas. As an avid soccer fan, he not only enjoyed watching the sport, but he was also proud to have been a soccer coach for his kids as well as so many others. He was also a hometown Tampa Bay Lightning fan. Brian had a sense of adventure and loved to travel, and he also loved a properly poured Guinness.
Brian is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth LaVigne in 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Cathleen Diane Russell LaVigne; children Caitlin Teresa LaVigne and Erin Liam LaVigne; mother, Carol LaVigne; sister, Pamela Weyh; and brother, Kevin LaVigne and his wife, Evelyn. He will also be dearly missed by his in-laws; Susan (predeceased by husband, Stanley), Cynthia and her husband, William, and James and his wife, Connie.
A funeral service to honor Master Corporal Brian LaVigne will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Idlewild Baptist Church located at 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd. Tampa, FL, 33548. Family will receive friends one hour prior.
