Lucy was born on September 22, 1953 in Cavite City, Philippines to Eduardo Cruz and Consolacion Cruz (Piring).
She was the eldest of 4 sisters and worked in her grandfather’s restaurant & bar while attending school. It was in the family restaurant where Lucy met David, who was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War as a member of the US Navy. It was love at first sight and Lucy moved to the US soon after David was discharged.
David and Lucy were married in Reno, Nevada on July 3, 1971 and settled in Kansas City, Missouri where David became a police officer.
Lucy was a loving mother to three children with David: Vanessa, David III, and Bianca. Lucy was a homemaker while the children were young, but also worked to help support the family once the children were all in school.
Lucy enjoyed socializing with her Filipino friends and loved playing mahjong, a game similar to gin rummy but played with tiles instead of cards. Lucy also loved singing and dancing and many evenings were spent singing karaoke with family and friends.
Lucy was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where all of her children were baptized and confirmed.
Lucy expressed her love with food. She and David introduced the delicious foods of the Philippines to many people and even had a catering business and food truck at one time.
Lucy enjoyed fishing and there are many stories of her summer adventures with David at Ten Mile Lake. Shouts of “get the net!” will always make the family smile.
English was a second language for Lucy and there are many funny stories of her mixing up words and phrases to great laughter. Please share your remembrances with us!
Lucy was preceded in death by her Parents Eduardo and Consolacion Cruz; sister Teresita Cruz Salustiano; parents-in-law David Victor Sr. and Elaine Ferber; brothers-in-law Donald Radke, Mike Malott, and Jody York; Godfather Cliff Noah.
