Edwin Moudry was born in Bellville, Texas on August 12, 1934, to Joe L. and Bessie Fisher Moudry. He passed away in a Houston hospital, on Saturday, June 15, 2024. He grew up and worked on his family's farm in Nelsonville, Texas. Edwin attended Bellville High School where he played in their band. Soon thereafter, he was hired by the Ford Motor Company, where he was trained as a certified automotive mechanic, worked for five years, and he was promoted to shop foreman at the young age of only 22.
In January of 1957, he married Johnelle Thoede in Houston. Seven months later, he was drafted by the United States Army serving on several bases, including in Munich, Germany. Edwin was in the truck maintenance department over all the mechanics in the 34th tank battalion. He suffered complete and temporary hearing loss after an Army tank explosion in Grafenwöhr, Germany. Edwin was honorably discharged and returned to Houston where he continued his work in automotives, by working at Leritus Automotive in the Village, where he honed his mechanical skills. Edwin did not let the injuries he suffered in the Army hold him back from flourishing in business as he acquired the Braesmain Texaco Station on South Braeswood. Edwin would grow the business from humble beginnings, to eventually include a garage and Moudry Motors Used Car Dealership. The business was a family business where all worked especially the boys. He taught his children good work ethics with patience and love. In 2019, he closed the shop after more than six decades of service. Edwin lived his life with a strong commitment to work, teaching his children life skills, a strong work ethic, desire to help others, and how to love and take care of their families.
He enjoyed spending weekends in "the country," what he fondly referred to his place in Cat Springs, Texas. Edwin enjoyed horseback riding, a skill he learned growing up riding his horse to grade school. He collected antique farming tools and Texaco memorabilia. Edwin enjoyed music (especially Country, Czech, Polkas and Waltzes) and dancing. Edwin was a member of St. Vincent de Paul and a member of Knights of Columbus.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Johnelle Thoede Moudry of Houston; his children, Sherry Schneider and her husband, Dell, Edward Tim Moudry and his wife, Cindy, Rick Moudry and his fiance, Tiffany Thompson, and Randy Moudry and his wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Scott and Morgan Schneider, Amy and John Klier, Tiffany and Blake Potts, Cally Moudry and fiance Scott Sudduth, Kyle and Alicia Moudry, Chelsea Moudry, Dixie Moudry and Logan Moudry; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Beau and Harper Schneider, Avery Potts and Ada Moudry.
Edwin was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Moudry; and his parents, Bessie Fisher Moudry and Joe L. Moudry; brother, Charles Ray Moudry; sisters, Bessie Hannon and Earline Jackson; Parents-in-law, John L. and Emily Thoede.
Edwin was a loving, kind and caring man to all that knew and loved him. He always had a smile, a joke to tell, a hand to lend, a hug to give, and love to spread. His love and devotion to his family and others was always evident to all. His legacy will live on through his family, especially his children.
