

A 1958 graduate of Athol High School, John went on to earn a certificate in plumbing from Worcester Industrial Technical Institute in 1960. In 1963, he joined the Army National Guard, proudly serving as a Rocket Launcher Gunner until his honorable discharge in 1969.
John dedicated 31 years of service to United Parcel Service in Gardner, Massachusetts, before retiring in 1995. After relocating to New Bern, North Carolina, he worked for Coca-Cola for three years, where he became a familiar and friendly face to many in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joseph Donbrowo.
John is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Donbrowo; his children, Rita (John) Burchfield, Kimberly (Shawn) Simmons, and Amy (Scott) Gauldin; seven grandchildren, Kayla (Alex) McCullough, Hannah Burchfield, Kelsey Simmons, Emma Burchfield, Reagan Gauldin, Carson Gauldin, and Kalli Simmons; and two great-grandchildren, Malikai Townley and Cooper McCullough. He is also survived by many other dear relatives and friends, including cherished brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as nieces and nephews.
A receiving of friends will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern. Military honors will be presented to the family at 2:00 pm, during the visitation.
