

Born in Burke County on May 12, 1942, Sherry was the daughter of the late Rev. Angus Archie “A.A.” Lockee and Swoney Oxentine Lockee. Raised in a home grounded in faith, she carried that foundation throughout her life.
She was also a beloved elementary school teacher for more than 30 years in the Burke Country School district, remembered by generations of students for her patience, dedication, and gentle encouragement. She was also known for her faithful service to her church over many years and for living out her beliefs through kindness and care for others. She spent her life rooted in the community she loved and was known for her warmth, quiet strength, and deep devotion to her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon Lee Duckett, and by her brothers and sisters: Mark Anthony Lockee, Ida Belle Lockee Chavis, Cara Mable Lockee Chavis, Ossie Ola Lockee, Angus Varser Lockee, Franklin “Frank” Woodrow Lockee, Sarah Pearline Lockee Hallman, Dorothy Edith Lockee Mace, Vashti Lockee Payne Mace, Juanita Cateeche “Teechie” Lockee Reinhardt, Dr. James Reginald Lockee, Coyte Jerome Lockee, Linda Lockee, PFC Gerald Spencer Lockee, Robert “Bobbie” R. Lockee, Carolyn Joan Lockee Herman, Donald Ray Lockee, Barbara Faye Lockee Grindstaff, and Christopher Ironda “Ronda” Lockee
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, J. Lynn Duckett and his wife Adrianna, and their son Noah, all of Canyon Country, California; her daughter, Karen Duckett Bailey and her husband Palmer of Burbank, California; and her sister, Brenda Lockee Melchor of Vale, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church in Hildebran, with Reverend Bob Dockery and Reverend Timothy Grindstaff officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
