

Mike was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, on July 4, 1947, and emigrated to the United States when he was 9 years old. He grew up in Fremont, Ohio with his Mother Ursula Boese Westphal and Stepfather Hans Westphal.
He joined the United States Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam during 1967 and 1968 before receiving an honorable discharge in 1970. In 1970, Mike joined the DC Metropolitan Police Department and served as a police officer until he retired in 1990. After retirement, he worked as a dispatcher for the Alexandria, VA Police Department before leaving to become a stay-at-home Dad. Once his sons were older, he worked part-time for Prince William County School Security.
Mike loved his family and the family dogs, loved being a police officer, loved riding motorcycles (especially Harleys), loved old cars and oldies music and of course, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Washington Redskins.
In addition to his mother and stepfather, Mike is preceded in death by his brother, Peter Beutel of Wiesbaden, Germany.
Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lori Beutel, and their two sons, Christopher Beutel and his wife Shana of Edmonds, WA, and Peter Beutel of Stafford, VA; his daughter, Lara White of Vera Beach, FL.; his grandson, Geoffrey Traylor and his wife Crystal; his great grandchildren Cody and Morgan of Melbourne, FL; his granddaughter, Amanda Traylor of Vera Beach, FL.; and his brother, Klaus Beutel and his wife Felizitas of Wiesbaden, Germany.
Visitation will be held at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Rd., Stafford, VA 22554, on May 28, 2026, from 10:30am to 11:30 am followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location on May 28, 2026, beginning at 11:30 am.
Burial will take place at Grace United Methodist Church at Hartwood, 13056 Elk Ridge Rd., Fredericksburg, VA, on May 28, 2026.
