Carl Thomas Applewhite, age 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 5, 2009. Carl was born on April 12, 1934 to Wilma and H.L. (Dick) Applewhite in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. In 1953, Carl graduated from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas where he lettered in football and baseball. After graduation, Carl enlisted in the US Army and served his country proudly for 6 yrs. While in the military, Carl met the love of his life, Grace, and they were married in 1955. Grace and Carl relocated to Houston, Texas where Carl received his electronics degree from Capitol Radio Institute. In 1959, Carl hired on at Texas Instruments in Houston and was employed for 32 years, retiring as a Customer Service Department Manager of major accounts. Throughout the years, Carl has enjoyed participating and watching the many activities of his children such as Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, Little League and coaching girl's softball. Carl's grandchildren were the absolute joy of his life and he attended as many activities as he could. Carl was also active at Westminister United Methodist Church in Houston serving as Chair of the Administrative Board, Lay Leader as well as teaching Bible classes. Carl was also a volunteer chaplain at Texas Children's Hospital. In his later years, golf brought much pleasure to Carl and he served as president of the MGA in Sun City. Carl is preceded in death by his mother, Wilma, his father Dick and his brother Roger. Carl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Grace; daughter, Karen Wells and husband, Dwayne; sons, Rick Applewhite and wife, Michelle and Jeff Applewhite and wife, Cara; daughter-in-law, DeAnna Applewhite; and grandchildren, Amanda Haynes, Jason Applewhite, Craig Applewhite, Hayley Applewhite, Lauren Applewhite, Rachel Applewhite and Bella Burleson.Services to celebrate Carl's life will be held at The Worship Place in Sun City, Georgetown, Texas on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 2pm.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Worship Place, 811 Sun City Blvd., Georgetown, Texas 78633.
