NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. J. Marshall Babineaux, the former Girlie Melancon, age 96, at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Fr. Blaine Clement officiating and Fr. Floyd Calais con celebrating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Tuesday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 9:00 am on Wednesday until service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Babineaux passed away at 12:20 am on Monday, November 30, 2009 at her residence.
Mrs. Babineaux was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandkids, whom will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Ronnie B. Pete and her husband Gene of New Iberia; five grandchildren, Zanetta Berard of Baton Rouge; Marc Berard and wife Phyllis of New Iberia; Jason Berard and wife Sandra of Baton Rouge, Gil Pete and wife Pam of Lafayette and Tanya Thibodeaux and husband Todd of New Iberia; great grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Seth Long and wife Brandi; Sarah Broussard and husband Josh; Lori Berard Bouton; Carlie Berard; Marc Owen Berard, Jr.; Chase Berard; Macie Pete; Alexis Pete; Jake Thibodeaux and Jarod Thibodeaux; two step great grandchildren, Heather Guillory and Cody Richard; nine great great grandchildren; sister, Gloria M. Lopez and her husband Harold “Chip” Lopez of New Iberia; son in law, Russell Berard of New Iberia and brother in law, Whitney Gautreaux of New Iberia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Marshall Babineaux; parents; Louis J. and Cecile Trahan Melancon; daughter, Janelle B. Berard; sister, Thelma M. Gautreaux and great grandson, Brennan Pete.
Pallbearers will be Marc Berard, Jason Berard, Gil Pete, Marc Owen Berard, Jr., Staff Sgt. Seth Long and Chase Berard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Berard, Whitney Gautreaux, Todd Thibodeaux, Harold “Chip” Lopez, Jed Lopez, Kenny Lopez, Hal Lopez, Bryan Gautreaux and Creed Dugas.
