LUTHER ANDREWThe funeral for Luther J. "Babe" Andrew, 93, of Decatur will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McConnell Funeral Home with Eddie Gooch officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Luther J. "Babe" Andrew ascended to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at his residence. His wife of 63 years, Frances Hamilton Andrew, was by his side at his passing. Mr. Andrew was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Limestone County to Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Andrew. A veteran of our country, he was very proud to have served in World War II. Mr. Andrew was a member of the local Elks Lodge, VFW, and American Legion. He was a lifetime member of Tanner Methodist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. L. and Flora Andrew; sister, Frances Andrew; and three brothers James Andrew, Earl Andrew, and Edward Andrew.He is survived by his wife, Frances Andrew; one son, Randy Andrew and Ellen Andrew of Decatur; three daughters, Sharon Johnston and husband Ron of Decatur, Denise Andrew and Brian Gamble of Decatur, and Tara Crawford of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Nikki Hawkins, Danielle Terry, Eric Andrew, Adam Watson, Andrew Watson, Tiffany Pappas, Elijah Watson, Colton Riley, Jarrett Riley, and Cameron Crawford; and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kerry Hawkins, Bradley Terry, Hunter Pappas, Eric Andrew, Adam Watson, Andrew Watson, Elijah Watson, Colton Riley and Jarrett Riley. Honorary pallbearer will be Cameron Crawford. He was the strength of his family, a man of great fortitude and will be missed by all. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley for all of their help.
