Shirley Ann Allard, age 67, of Lebanon, passed away on December 21, 2009. She was born on May 26, 1942 in New London to the late Andrew Henry and Florette (Clark) Scovish. She married Royal L. Allard Jr. on November 28, 1959. He predeceased her on November 30, 1997 after 38 years.
She was an executive housekeeper throughout New London County in various hotels and convalescent homes including the Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Ramada Inn, Norwich Convalescent, Pendelton and most recently at the Atria in Groton.
She is survived by a son Royal L. Allard III and his wife Magda of Norwich, a son Jeffrey Roy Allard and his wife Heather of Franklin, a dear companion Ken Lavoie of Lebanon, and sisters Doris Blais of Uncasville CT, Joanne Clark of Montville CT, Sheila Clang of Bradenton FL, Rosemary Richard of Norwich CT, Andrea Gigure of Oakdale CT, and brothers Andrew Scovish of Montville CT, Steven Scovish of Ellington FL. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Royal IV, Trina, Chris, Kelsey, Derek, and Nicholas as well as many nieces and nephews.
Shirley loved spending time with her family. Enjoyed playing various card games with the family. She was the past president of the East Great Plains Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she was a member for over 30 years. She was a Den Mother of Troop 79. She enjoyed going to the beach, spending many summers at East Matunick and Ocean Beach. She was an avid NASCAR fan. Her favorite driver was Kasey Kahne. She was a champion driver in the Powder Puff Derby held at the Waterford Speedbowl.
Family and friends may visit Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Lee Memorial Church on Washington Street in Norwich on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Echo Foundation, 330 Washington Street, Suite 220, Norwich, CT 06360.
