Wendall Anschutz, 71, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 11, 10:00 a.m., at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 10, at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by a Time of Remembrance Service at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Fund, University of Kansas Hospital, 2330 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Suite 302, Westwood, KS 66205, or the Salvation Army, PO Box 412577, Kansas City, MO, 64141.Wendall was born January 21, 1938, in Russell, Kansas. After finishing his undergraduate degree at KU, he served as an officer in the Navy. He later returned to Kansas to finish his graduate degree at KU and began his 35 year career as a reporter and anchor on KCTV 5. Wendall was active in the community serving on several boards for charities including the Salvation Army, who honored him with the Booth Award. He was an avid and accomplished painter, sculptor, woodworker, writer and pilot. Most of all, he loved his family.Wendall was preceded in death by his parents, Leal and Theresa Anschutz and brother, Gary Anschutz. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nita; his daughter, Sirena; son, Curtis; grandson, Travis; brother, Terry Anschutz; many cousins, and members of his wife's family, Iabil Garza, Olga and Pat Madigan, Rachel Welliver, Elva and Mike Heath, whom he loved as brothers and sisters.
