Ruth was born in Madison, Illinois on July 26, 1924 to Phillip and Tota (Kostoff) Geneff. She moved with her family to Wapato, WA in 1932 where she attended school and graduated from Wapato High School in 1943. During high school she was on the tennis team and garnered several trophies.
During her working years, Ruth was employed as a dental assistant, an attendance counselor at A.C. Davis High School, was the manager of the family owned excavating company and retired after eighteen years of maintaining accounts for Yakima Valley Disposal.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Moxee City. Ruth was an avid Mariners fan and knew players by name. She also enjoyed gambling with her friends. In earlier years she spent many weekends entertaining in her home. Music, good food and lots of friends filled the house. She was known as “mom” by many of the girls’ friends. If they were hungry, Ruth fed them.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Vickie (Bob) Tanasse, and Kelley Irwin, all of Yakima, four grandchildren, Travis & Taylor Tanasse; and Andy and Stephanie Irwin; niece, Zorka Casselman of San Diego, CA and three great-nieces and 3 great-nephews.
