Hayward served our country in the Navy during World War II on the USS Hollis and he took special pride in the fact that he was present to witness the Japanese surrender to bring WWII to a close. He retired from Stewarts Dry Goods Store after 34 years as a chef where he was known for his famous hot browns and “down home cooking”. In addition, he created artful platters for Woodhaven Country Club as chef and was a member of the Buechel Park Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret Miller; children, Douglas Miller, Kenneth Miller (Debbie), Kathy Diener (Jansen); brother, James Miller of Jackson TN.; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Hayward’s life will be conducted at 10 am, Saturday, December 29, 2012 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held 4-8 pm Friday, December 28, 2012.
