

Dessie Merlene Mills Tyler passed away March 27, 2014 in Arlington, Texas. Visitation will held Monday, March 31, 2014 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home in Arlington on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
Merlene was born on December 4, 1926 on her grandparents’ farm in Brown County, Texas to parents Mae (Long) Mills and Haskell Mills. She was raised near Eliasville, Texas and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1944. She worked for many years as a secretary in Breckenridge, Fort Worth and Houston where she met and married Harold Tyler in 1961. Merlene and Harold had two sons, Seth and Andy. Merlene spent the rest of her life as a homemaker. Harold’s job took them from Houston to Sasebo, Japan where they lived for one year and to Stavanger, Norway where they lived for ten years. They returned to Texas and built a home in Lakeway, Texas where they enjoyed retirement for many years. In their later years, they moved to Mansfield to be closer to their children. Merlene loved to play tennis, Liverpool rummy, and canasta. Her faith was always strong and she was an active member of the United Methodist Church for most of her life. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and her favorite times were spent with her family. She died peacefully surrounded by her children and her husband.
Merlene is survived by her husband, Harold Tyler, sons Seth and wife Barbara of Arlington, and Andy of Hico, Texas, granddaughters Rachel and Diane Tyler of Arlington, brother Norman Mills of Houston, Texas, sister Verba Mills of Houston, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother George.
