Andrew John Siska
March 30, 1928 – January 1, 2020
Andrew passed peacefully after a courageous battle with dementia and related complications. Predeceased by his parents, baby Maria, sisters Serena, Magdalene, and brother Joseph. He is survived by his remaining sisters Margaret, Yolanda, Martha and Mary; and his younger brother Mike. Andrew was born in Punnichy, Saskatchewan and moved with the family to Abbotsford in 1937. He had a very diverse career in farming, milk deliveries with Little Mt Dairy, school custodian, in addition, a number of miscellaneous jobs. He volunteered at St. Ann’s for 35 years serving at daily Mass and at funerals, too many to count – he felt he had a personal calling for his volunteering time of service. He loved his garden and took pride in growing and canning the fruits of each season. A dutiful son, he looked after his parents enabling them to live in their home. He visited Hungary on several occasions reconnecting with his relatives. He was a proud bachelor who enjoyed living alone but never lonely and always keeping busy through his contacts with his family, cousins and many friends. He loved music particularly classical to which he could relax taking him beyond the present into each musical delight. He loved antique cars having restored Mary Pickford’s 1924 Pearce Arrow touring along with a 1931 McLaughlin Buick. He mastered the artisan skills for crafting stringed musical instruments and repairing many; he tried his hand at artistic painting. He had extraordinary patience to go along with his belief in the value of perfection mastering the difficulties of each task undertaken. He played the guitar and then learned the violin which he played each day. He enjoyed singing in a Barbershopers Group and enjoyed 5 Pin Bowling becoming play off champions in 1961- 62 and in 1967- 68. He believed in the divine deeply and went to Mass daily living the tenants of his faith. Andrew was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus believing in the principles and values established by Venerable Michael McGivney. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 8:00 pm at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Avenue, Abbotsford.
