With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Benjamin Alexander Stockwood on January 21, 2025, surrounded by his daughters and grandchildren. Born in Western Bay, Newfoundland, Ben grew up in a large family that shaped the kind, loyal, and compassionate man he became.
Ben later followed his little brother Don to Ontario, where he spent much of his life. He shared deep and unwavering bonds with his siblings—Don (& Patricia), Ethel, Isabel, Liz, Sam, and William—and remained a constant source of love and support throughout their lives.
Ben formed close and meaningful relationships with his nieces and nephews—Melissa (James, Carter, Eli), Annette S. (James, Abby, Libby), Matthew, Annette C. (Melissa, Shawn), Barry C., Lee, Randy (Brandon Y.), Samantha, Dianne, Jessica, John, and Don—who cherished his unwavering presence, love, and guidance.
While living in Ontario, Ben met Linda, who had three children—Christina, Pamela, and Tracy. Without hesitation, he embraced them as his own. After Linda’s passing just three years later, Ben dedicated himself to raising and loving them unconditionally.
Ben’s family grew to include nine grandchildren: Christina, Jonah, Marcus, Kate, Stanley, Stella, Brandon, Casey, and Kyle. They were the light of his life, and his love for them knew no bounds.
Though retired for the last 10 years, Ben’s career spanned 28 years at Mr. Christie’s cookies, where he developed many great relationships with his colleagues. His time there was fondly remembered and often shared with his loved ones.
In his later years, Ben divided his time between British Columbia, Ontario, and Newfoundland, prioritizing the cherished relationships he built with family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, unwavering support, and boundless kindness. Ben was the glue that held his family together—a strong, steady, and consistent presence in all our lives.
Predeceased by his parents, Evelyn and Charles, his wife Linda, his siblings Liz, Sam, William, and Richard, and his nieces and nephews Matthew, Lee, Erika, Sydney and Chris.
Ben will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.
His memory will live on in the love he gave and the lessons he taught us about loyalty, compassion, and the importance of family.
