Our mom was born in Avonlea, Saskatchewan to parents who were both of Romanian descent. Mom was one of eight children born to the couple and only her youngest sister, Judy, is left. After school, she moved from the family farm to work in the big city – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She worked in the hospital and enjoyed paging doctors on the intercom system. She also loved singing in the church choir. At 24 she met and married our dad, Bob, and had four children – Wendy, Nancy, Randy, and Ken. Randy and his wife Donna have four kids of their own – Carson, Landon, Danae and Danica.
In 1969 we moved to Port Coquitlam, BC, and then eventually our parents moved to Abbotsford to be closer to their grandchildren. Mom continued to be active with sewing, cooking, crafts, and doing activities with the grandchildren. Our mom was always very smart and willing to try something new. She learned to drive when she was 60, she sold Avon while riding her bike, and she travelled on the bus all the way to Vancouver to work at a pasta company. She also had her own typing business in Maple Ridge for several years.
We will all miss her very much. She was sweet, funny, smart, and her priority was always her family. She loved playing scrabble and other games … and later puzzles and colouring. She didn’t remember very much in her later years due to cognitive issues, but she always enjoyed our company and continued to maintain a cheerful attitude. We love you mom!
