Claude was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on March 20, 1952 to Roger and Millie Schumacher. He had an aptitude for working with his hands and excelled in the trades during his school years. In the early 70's, Claude decided to head west for greener pastures and a milder climate. There he met his wife to be, Jean Froese, the niece of his boss at Vancouver Brake & Wheel. In 1972, Jean accompanied Claude back to his childhood home in Regina for the next year where they got engaged and returned to BC to be married in 1973. After a short stint back in SK, they decided to make their permanent home and raise their family in BC.
Claude was a cement truck operator for Rempel Bros Concrete for many years until health issues saw him signing up for early retirement. He very much enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when swimming, boating and fishing were involved. He also continued to enjoy some wheeling and dealing, always looking for the best deal. He could be described as a great MacGyver-type, if there was a way to fix something, he would find it and instilled this passion in his children.
Claude is survived by his wife Jean of 50 years and his three children: son Chris (April) and granddaughters Megan and Sierra; daughter Angela and grandson Troy (Haley) and great-granddaughter Ridley, granddaughter Sunny and grandson Chase (Stevana); and son Nicholas and grandson Michael, and granddaughter June. He is also survived by his sister Doreen (John-Henry) and their children and grandchildren.
Claude is predeceased by his parents, Roger and Millie, and his grandson Austin.
No formal services are being held but the immediate family will be honouring Claude at a later time.
We will miss him dearly and hold our memories close.
