Clifford Fowler was born on July 29th, 1937 in Sheffield, England. He spent his early years in the north of England, before joining the British Army at the age of 15 where he trained to become a Physiotherapist, a prescient decision for a 15 year old to make and one which would see the beginning of a 50 year career in the field.
Cliff met his wife Patricia in Woolwich, London, and they married in 1959. They started a family and Rick was born in 1961 during their time in Germany with the army, while Dave was born in 1963 when Cliff was deployed to Malaya for 2 years.
He left the army as a Sergeant in 1964, and shortly thereafter him and Pat moved their young family to Canada. First to North Bay, then Toronto, Red Deer, and finally Abbotsford. Cliff was an active member of various organization’s: the Abbotsford Rugby Club, Ledgeview Golf Club, and he played bridge consistently until days before he passed. He was a leader in his field and along with running a successful practice (the details of which were deftly handled by Pat) taught widely around the world, including a stint in Kuwait at the age of 70.
His professional colleagues recall a man who was a mentor to many, and he left a lasting impact on his field and the people in it.
His family will recall a kind, understanding man, who always took an interest in everyone's lives, particularly education. He had a ravenously curious mind, which he has certainly passed on. You simply never knew if you were going to discuss his beloved Canucks, politics, complicated financial trading strategies, or be hit with a very specific geography trivia question. But one thing for certain was that every conversation was interesting.
He will be missed.
