Daniel R. Goossen
January 28, 1932 – February 6, 2020
A Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, Daniel Goossen, was born in Greenland, Manitoba on January 28, 1932 to Peter and Helena (Reimer) Goossen. He peacefully passed away on February 6, 2020 reaching the age of 88 years. As a teenager, Dad heard the call of God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. He embraced this faith till the end and the Church was very precious to him. On May 29, 1955 Dad married Rosella Warkentin in the Greenland church and enjoyed almost 65 years together. They established their first home in Greenland, Manitoba. In April of 1969 Dad decided he wanted to go cattle ranching in Pincher Creek, Alberta where they lived and raised their family for the next thirteen years. In May of 1982 they moved to Saskatchewan for two years then to Abbotsford, BC in 1984 where they reside to this day. Dad had various occupations from farming to truck driving, but farming was his first love. In his retirement he enjoyed his hobby of woodworking. Being the fourth youngest in a family of fourteen children he had lots of stories to tell about his growing up years. Just in the last six months he could still tell his great granddaughters about the bear story. About three years ago we noticed Dad’s memory was fading but he still knew us by name most of the time until the end. Dad enjoyed visiting and Dad and Mom made numerous trips to Manitoba to visit family and friends. Almost four years ago Dad and Mom spent two summers in Steinbach, Manitoba, but they missed the children and grandchildren in BC too much and decided to stay in Abbotsford. Dad loved each of his grandchildren and they will remember his special “squeeze”. He will be remembered by his infectious laugh that would soon have everyone joining in. Although our hearts are saddened that his place is empty, he is gone to be with Jesus and we do not wish him back. Those cherishing his memory are his wife, Rosella; his children Sandra Regehr (Dave Lutton), Abbotsford, BC, Delton and Sharolyn, Abbotsford, BC, Russel and Meletta, Rosenort, Manitoba, Lorelie and Howard Miller, Benito, Manitoba and Mark and Marce, Abbotsford, BC; fifteen grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Brothers Roy and Gladys, Robert and Florence, sisters-in-law Doreen Goossen and Ellen Goossen, the Warkentin family and many nieces and nephews. Those gone before are his parents, his parents-in-law, his grandson, Dallas Miller, and his eleven siblings.

When i think of uncle Danny my memories go back to 1990 when a girl of 11 our family made a move across the prairies to Abbotsford, BC. Beings it was a new place and all new faces it was comforting to know we had relatives there. Through the bumpy times i remember uncle Danny being there helping out in his fun loving way.
In 2006 i married and again made a move across the prairies, again to a place i had never heard of and did not know anyone. On the evening of our reception in Pincher Creek i recieved a pleasant surprise when in the door walked uncle Danny's. He thought it would be nice if i had some relatives there and it was a good reason to visit friends. That gesture meant alot to me at the time and is a memory i treasure. Through our married we have lived in Pincher and now Cartwright, both places where uncle Danny's had family and friends and about evetytime they were in the area we could count on them stopping by "to make sure we were staying out of trouble"
I will remember uncle Danny for his love for teasing, his way of saying things just as he saw them, a smile that made his eyes disappear and that squeeze of his.
Our thoughts are with you as a family as you say your final good-byes.

Our sincere condolences to Rosella and family. The years have passed very quickly since we grew up in the Greenland community. May God be very near to you all. ...remember how Danny would take the pickup and take a number of us young boys to the Ste Anne sand pit swimming , ...invite a whole table full of boys for sunday dinner. ... them were the days.
