Ed is survived by his wife Dora (Dorothy). He is also survived by his children Gerry (Brenda), Dean (Darcy), Carol (Lyndon), Sandy (Ray), 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed, but we are content in knowing that is with his Savior.
Ed was born in Fairholme, Saskatchewan April 6, 1937 in the log home that his father built in 1928. His parents were George and Bertha Peters. He was the youngest of four children – Frieda, Justin, Ervin and Ed.
The family moved to BC in 1947 and moved to a farm on Bell Road. Ed was always a hard worker. He helped on their farm, neighbouring farms, and as a teen, got a job at a grocery store downtown Abbotsford.
Ed and Dora met at Philip Sheffield High School. They were married October 8, 1955 and soon moved to Vancouver where they started their family with two sons, Gerry and Dean.
In 1960, Ed’s job with BA Oil took them to Calgary, where they lived for fourteen years during which time they added two daughters, Carol and Sandy, to the family. Ed was active in their church Sunday school, choir and treasury. As a family, they enjoyed camping in the summer, tobogganing and skating in the winter, and watching the Stampede parade.
In 1974, the family moved back to BC, eventually settling back in Abbotsford. Ed’s job with Bank of Montreal meant long hours of commuting to Vancouver. He took a job with the Surrey Co-Op on Cyril Street to work closer to home. Later he would become the branch manager for Clearbrook Credit Union (now Envision Credit Union) where he enjoyed helping many people with their finances and made lifelong friends with so many of them. In 1986, Ed transitioned to a career as a financial planner, working with Empire Life Insurance Company. His financial advice was usually accompanied with personal words of wisdom and encouragement. During this time Ed and Dora were fortunate to attend many conventions around the world. Ed and Dora especially loved vacations in Hawaii and enjoyed cruises to Panama and Alaska.
Ed was thrilled to become a grandpa and took great joy in his grandchildren and again in his great grandchildren.
In retirement, Ed and Dora enjoyed trips to Banff, Leavenworth, Victoria or just down country roads – especially if there was a Tim Hortons or Birchwood ice cream along the way.
In 2022, Ed moved into the care of the Menno Home. He quickly warmed the hearts of everyone he met there and was loved by the staff. He was always so happy to visit with friends and family, especially his sweetheart Dora. In just a few months they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Ed loved the Lord, loved his family and he was loved.
