The family moved to a farm in Clearbrook during the 1930’s where they raised strawberries and raspberries. They remained there for about forty years.
Elisabeth married Paul Nagy in 1948 and then lived on their farm in Abbotsford where they also farmed strawberries and raspberries and a variety of livestock. They raised their three children; Kathy (May), Sandra (Pope) and Darryl Nagy there until 1965. Farming, gardening and life in the country was what Elisabeth enjoyed the most. She was happy tending the large gardens, orchards, driving the tractor, looking after her beloved Jersey cow and spending time with her family. They moved to Maple Ridge for several years and then with the death of Paul, Elisabeth relocated to Mission and returned to Abbotsford for her final years. In her later years she was active with the seniors group in Maple Ridge and enjoyed their dancing, outings and various social events.
Our mother appreciated the joy and happiness in the small things in life. She truly lived in the moment. She was the last keeper of our family history and stories, perhaps often embellished and exaggerated, as families do, but nevertheless our history. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her children (Kathy,Sandra,Darryl) grandchildren ( Shanahan Dobie, Allyson Hankins,Adam Nagy), her sister(Caroline Allemeersch),nieces and nephews.
Our family is very thankful and grateful to all the kind staff at Menno Hospital who looked after Elisabeth with great care, kindness and dignity over the last years of her life. She was always happy, content and comfortable while living there.
