Elizabeth (Loewen) Born

She was born on August 8, 1928, to Henry and Elizabeth Loewen in Foxwarren, Manitoba. The family moved to Yarrow, B.C. when she was 13 years old. As a young adult, she attended Briercrest Bible School, and then left home to go work in Vancouver. It is there that she worked as a nanny/housekeeper, at Woodwards, and in a lumber mill. She also volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission. Betty married Isaac (Ike) Born on October 11, 1958. They lived in Vancouver in their early years, where their daughters Alita and Marilyn were born, then moved to Surrey, where their third daughter, Tracy, was born. After living in Surrey for seven years, they had an opportunity to move to Malaysia to experience a different culture for a work opportunity. When they came home eight months later, they settled in Abbotsford.

She spent her final years in assisted living in Agassiz and then full care in Chilliwack.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed painting, crocheting, knitting, sewing, crafting, gardening, coffee with her friends, volunteering at various places, leading a women’s bible study, heading up the food committee at church and helping Ike in deacon ministry.

Mom was caring, nurturing, and always a good listener.

Her husband Ike passed away of cancer at the age of 71, after 44 years of marriage.

Betty will be missed by daughters; Alita (Dennis) Haak, Marilyn (Henry) Sawatzky, Tracy Engel, Grandchildren; Erin, Nathan, Julie, Karlee, Mark, Tim, Pam, Matthew, Lisa, Kristopher, Trecia, Richard, Paul and Tariku and 15 great-grandchildren; She is also survived by her sister Ruth her brothers Dan and Gordon. In-laws, John, Betty, Agnes and Nellie. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Abe, Henry, Tony, Ike and Dave, sisters Elma, Mary and Elsie.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Valley Haven for their excellent care and love for our mom.

The memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Main Street Church, 9325 Main Street, Chilliwack, BC, V2P 4M3, with Adam Waine officiating.
