Born in Enumatil, Netherlands, Mom was the sixth of Jan and Grietje Poll's eight children. She completed her education at the end of grade 8 and began working as a housekeeper for a grocer and farming family in Oostwold. Later, she moved to Groningen, where she continued working as a housekeeper for a family before moving to Canada.
Mom, accompanied by her sister Ann and a friend, embarked on a journey to Canada aboard the "SS Groote Beer." After arriving, they took a train to Abbotsford, B.C., making a stop in Winnipeg, where they missed their train but eventually caught up by taking a taxi to the next stop.
In Canada, Mom continued working as a housekeeper and eventually met and married Klaas Kobes in June 1960. They lived in Surrey, Langley, and Abbotsford and were blessed with four children, thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Spending time with her family was Mom's greatest joy. She cherished family dinners and gatherings, often travelling to Calgary or Winnipeg to visit her loved ones. Mom had a talent for knitting blankets and little bears, which she lovingly crafted for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to this, she enjoyed cross-stitch and nurturing her flowers and garden.
Mom was a woman of faith who loved the Lord. She ran the spiritual race that God had set before her, looking to her Savior Jesus, the founder and perfecter of her faith.
