Fred was born in Poland, to German parents, Gustav & Amelia Nerling. During the war, their family with 8 children (Martha, Lydia, Eduard, Edmund, Fred, Erna, Else & Werner) were displaced. They travelled through Poland, West Prussia and Germany seeking shelter and safety. In 1954, Fred made Canada home. After completing a painting apprenticeship in Edmonton, he felt the call into the ministry. This would bring him to Vancouver, where he met his beautiful bride, Kay. Their ministry led them to Alberta and then on to Argentina as missionaries. Their children, Kevin, Les, Randy & Debbie were born there. Not only did they build the church, but they poured into the lives of the Argentine people. They learned Spanish and left a lasting impression there. Upon returning to Canada in 1981, Fred pastored in Chilliwack and Nanaimo. Retiring to Abbotsford in 2000, Fred & Kay's desire was to be close to their kids. Through retirement, they continued to support ministries and gather people together, most often with delicious meals. Fred lived a life full of compassion, love, service and faithfulness. His love of Christ, his family and people was evident through to his passing. He is survived by his wife Kay, children Kevin (Joyce), Les, Randy (Erica), Debbie (Marty) & grandchildren David, Priscilla, Desiree, Joey, Dayton, Jayden, Connor, Amelia, Austin & Luca.
