

George Penner was born in Morden, Manitoba January 19, 1932. He was the second child of German speaking Mennonite immigrant parents, he was raised in the Fraser Valley, going to church with his family.
He ran away from home at age 15 rebelling against God, the church and school. An encounter with God at age 19 changed the course of his life. He then went to the Mennonite Brethern Bible Institute, where he met his wife: Edith. They started ministry work as a young married couple, in Vavenby, and Deroche. They then attended P.B.I., Alberta, before moving back to BC where he was invited to serve as Pastor at Countyline Christian Fellowship, where they ministered for 29 years. Upon leaving Countyline, he spent 4 years on Vancouver Island pastoring part time. After returning to Abbotsford he ministered in addiction recovery for 12 years before fully retiring from ministry.
He and Edith were married for over 69 years. He is survived by Edith, his wife, five children and spouses, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and another on the way!
A memorial service for George will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Northview Community Church, 32040 Downes Rd, Abbotsford, BC V4X 1X5, followed by a reception from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM.
