Gerrit "Garry" Wolters

My beloved husband and Dad to Christine (Koenraad) Beugelink, Douglas (Tiffany) Wolters, and Katherine (Josh) Olson finished his earthly race on Saturday entering in to heaven at 12:39 pm on June 15, 2024. Garry was born on Jan 9, 1946 in Valom, Friesland Holland. Son of Ben & Barbara Wolters. Garry was the youngest of 10 siblings! 5 sisters and 5 brothers: Dick, Sid, Peter, George, Ida, Leonard, Nellie, Clara, Jennie and Susan. The family moved to Lethbridge, Alberta Canada in 1950 and later to Duncan on Vancouver Island where Garry grew up. He attended George Bonner Elementary and Cowichan High School. After high school Garry moved to Vancouver and we met at Vancouver First Christian Reformed church. We were married in 1970 and lived in Richmond briefly followed by 10 years in Calgary, and then later in Coquitlam, Surrey & Abbotsford – raising our family. He was an amazing Grandpa to his 11 grandchildren: Yelissa, Tianna, Kiara, Ezra, Aleena (Beugelink), Aviendha, Reed, Josiah (Wolters), Maia, Eva, Anya (Olson).

Garry worked in Sales at AirPro, then Finning, and later at Avenue Farm Machinery in Abbotsford, his favorite job. He retired in 2011 at 65. We had the opportunity to enjoy retirement travelling to Israel, Turkey, Holland, Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, and an 8 month RV road trip across Canada/USA. We were able to help serve on projects with World Relief and SOWERS ministries.

Garry loved Jesus. And he lived this out. He was a caring, thoughtful, joyful man who supported and loved his family and friends faithfully all his 78 years. We were married almost 54 years and Garry still is my forever love. His last few years were so difficult as he couldn’t move, eat by himself or talk. Our daily time together, spending time

in God’s Word, prayer, song, walks brought us through. We as family and friends were able to come alongside him with loving hugs and special care, joined in this journey together. We will miss him terribly but we’re also happy that his suffering is finally over after an 8-year struggle with the terrible disease Corticobasal Degeneration. He received care for the last 3 years at Tabor Home, a loving, caring environment. We’re grateful to God for Garry’s life and the gift he was to us all.
