Mom was born on June 1, 1933 in Kimberley, BC. She spent her childhood growing up in New Westminster. She often joked about how she didn’t like having to stay “in” 2 nights a week, so she got married at 17 and stayed “in” 7 nights a week. She became a single mom of 4 boys after her husband’s death, the youngest, David was still a toddler. A few years later, mom met her Australian Prince, Kevin, married him and they had one daughter. Life was busy raising 5 children and working outside the home. In 1973, they moved to Langley and created their hobby farm. They spent many years raising David and Francine as the older boys were out on their own. Mom became a grandmother for the first time in 1971. The significance of this blessing would be known in completion when tragedy struck in 1983 when she lost her eldest son, “Ricky” to a sudden and fatal heart attack. Her life was forever changed that day. Her family grew more and more each year with new grandchildren being born, and others being welcomed and blended into the family. She loved them all the same; Ricky’s daughter Heidi, Michael’s girls Danielle, Tricia, Jessica and Megan, Danny’s son Todd, and Francine’s children Ryan, Nicole and Brittany. Mom was blessed with many great grandchildren, Kennedy, James, Brayden, Brody, Zoe, Shane, Zane, Morgan, Charlie, Ryker, Drake and Skyler. Mom’s family was her greatest joy and she committed her whole life towards making them happy. In 1990 mom and Kevin decided to downsize and became snowbirds. They travelled in their fifth wheel for a few years before settling down in Aldergrove. They moved to Lion’s Grove Estates when the upkeep began to take its toll and to simplify their lives. Mom got involved in the social committee making prize baskets and playing in the dart competitions. She lived there for about a year after losing her aussie prince in 2009. She then moved in with Francine and Paul. After 4 and a half years when mom’s medical needs became more apparent and challenging to manage, she was moved to Menno Hospital where she received full care until her passing in January 27, 2018. The family would like to thank all the nurses, care aides, and recreational staff that gave her such loving care and a zest for life. It took her about a year to settle in, developing friendships and becoming happy there. She often spoke of how good ‘they’ were to her.
Mom was a hard worker, loyal to her friends and family but most of all she was our “mom” and we will all miss her deeply.
