On Wednesday, March 23rd, Grace Evelyn Clay (nee Russell), of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away peacefully at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family. Grace was born on a farm near Empress, Alberta, on November 17, 1932, to her parents Lawrence and Alice Russell. She is survived by her four children, Tim (Noreen), Perry (Sheridale), Arlene (Jim), Shelley; her sister Hazel and grandchildren Richard, Jonathan, Jamie, Julaine, Danielle (Adam), Devan, Jenna, Carson, Jaxson as well as extended family and friends. Grace was predeceased by her husband Ron Clay, and brother Lloyd.
Grace grew up in Estuary, Saskatchewan where she assisted on the family farm, and attended school. She married Oliver Leach in March, 1953 and raised her four children in Empress, AB. Grace moved to BC in 1970 with her four children, began a new life, eventually marrying Ron Clay February 9,1985 and lived in Abbotsford until her passing.
Grace’s greatest passion in life next to her family and faith, was music. Her love of music began at the age of 4 and continued throughout her life, including up until the last week of her life, where despite her ill health she performed one last concert for her family. Grace’s talent as a musician was well known in the lower mainland as she played in several country and western bands, including her most recent band “Gracie and the Guys”. Whether it was in care homes, seniors’ complexes, New Year’s Eve gigs, or regaling the neighbors in her condo complex, Grace never ceased to enthrall the audience with her beautiful gift.

Grace’s indomitable spirit, her laughter, her sense of humor and her ability to make anyone and everyone in her presence smile, are just a few of the reasons that this remarkable woman will be sorely missed.
