Hendrikje Johanna Stoker (Wierda) was born on January 26, 1935 in De Hommerts, Friesland, Netherlands to Sitjze and Klaaske Wierda. She was the 3rd youngest of 9, her oldest and youngest siblings died in infancy.
She began working at age 12 milking cows and housekeeping for a nearby farmer. Her first paying job at age 15 milking cows. She eventually to took a 2 year course to work as a cook in a nursing, where she worked for 4 years.
In 1962 she travelled to Canada by herself to visit her sister, and this is where she met Melis and they began dating and were married in September 27, 1963. Within the next 10 years they had all 5 Children: Kathleen, Henrietta, Syd, Theo and Teresa.
They started farming 1972 in the Mud Bay. They later moved to Deroche in 1977 where they purchased and started Melinke Farms. In 1990 they purchased a second farm; Fraser Edge Farms, where Syd began farming, while Theo continued to farm on the home place.
In 2004 they moved off the farm to a home nearby between both farms. Henny helped by making meals, bringing coffee while doing field work, babysitting and running to town to pick up parts.
When it became difficult to look after each other and were needing more care, they moved to Mission to Carrington House care facility. A year later another move brought them to Oxford in Abbotsford. Melis passed away in 2023 a month short of their 60th wedding Anniversary.
She enjoyed her visits from her Children, Grand Children and Great Grand Children. She trusted in the Lord and His timing even though she missed Melis being gone. Now they are with their heavenly Father.
She will be remembered by her 5 Children and their spouses. 18 Grandchildren and 30 Great Grandchildren.
A Celebration of life will be held at Living Hope Christian Reformed Church, where they were members on July 18, 2024 at 2pm.
