Janet Jewel Hildebrandt, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 86 at the Hawthorne Care Centre in Port Coquitlam, BC. She was born in Rostern, Saskatchewan, to Abe and Louise Epp.
Janet graduated from John Oliver High School in Vancouver, BC. It was en-route to a bible performance that fate intervened. The car was full, and Janet ended up sitting on Henry Hildebrandt's lap for the journey. Two years later, on October 11, 1958, they were married, and the rest is a beautiful history.
Family was everything to Janet, a mother who would at anytime come to the needs of her family or friend and fill whatever void was needed. A phenomenal cook, she loved nothing more than feeding everyone she knew. Her home was filled with the aroma of baked goods, and some of her fondest memories were baking with her grandchildren. Camping and family vacations were a staple of their life. There were were trips to Disneyland, Hawaii, many RV trips to Oregon, California, Birch Bay and of course fishing excursions with Henry and their dear friends.
Janet worked at various careers to help raise their family, her last career was with CIBC for approximately 20 years before retiring. She was known for her amazing smile, beautiful blue eyes, and infectious laugh that made everyone around her happy. She possessed a strong will and a quiet strength, balanced by a kind and loving heart and an ability to see where help was needed most and unafraid to be the hand to help others.
Janet will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Henry; her sons, Brian (and his wife Christine) Hildebrandt and Kevin (and his wife Samantha) Hildebrandt; her grandchildren, Brittany (and her husband Tanner), Alexa, Aaron (his partner Jaslyn), Aidan, and Owen; and her great-grandchildren, Ellison and Sadie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Louise, and her daughters, Sharron (at birth)Shelly Hildebrandt.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated and loving staff at the Hawthorne Care Centre for their exceptional support and compassion.
The family will host a celebration of life for Janet; the date and details are to be determined.
