On February 16, 2026, Dad stepped into heaven with an eternal spring in his step.
With his easy laugh and quick wit, Johnny effortlessly drew people in—making friends wherever he went and endearing himself deeply to his family. His patience and loyalty strengthened his bonds with his wife Lydia and their children, Charlene (Barry) and Glen (Celina), as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Widowed in 2009, Dad married Evangeline Rabel in 2014. She was his biggest fan.
On Sunday, April 26—one day before what would have been his 90th birthday—we will host an Open House from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 3170 Gladwin Road in Abbotsford, B.C. We will reminisce fondly about Dad with shared stories, relive his crazy antics (including his penchant for sporting hats made from salad bowls and Christmas ribbon), view the cars he crafted in his workshop, and hum along to the Gaither Vocal Band.
We are deeply grateful to the many friends and family who spent time with Dad—especially during his frequent hospital stays over the last two years. Special thanks to the compassionate medical team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, and particularly to Dr. John Chan, for their exemplary care.
Dad, we know you're leaping and dancing on those streets of gold in heaven. Jesus has paved the way for you. Because of this hope, we can celebrate within our pain.
