Katherine Elizabeth Block (nee Braun) passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 in Kelowna, B.C. She was born December 12, 1926 in Nikolaipol, Borissovo, Ukraine to Rev. Johann and Maria (Schulz) Braun.
Childhood tuberculosis and hospitalization led to the development of a strong servant spirit in Katherine. She volunteered at BC Children’s Hospital and Sunny Hill Hospital for over twenty years, offering solace and comfort to children and parents alike. Katherine was on the Western Winning Women’s Board for ten years, serving as treasurer. She was a leader of the Bible Study Fellowship, an international women’s ministry studying God’s Word. Katherine was very active in many different aspects of the Church. She also was a graduate of Sprott Shaw College with a diploma in Business.
Katherine was pre-deceased by grandson Matthew Pudlas and is survived by her children: Mary-Lynn (Eugene) Kaulius, John (Rose) Block, Katherine van Kampen, & Lory Block; four grandchildren: BJ Block, Jacqueline Block, Katie van Kampen, Samuel van Kampen & Tamara Everson, and three great grandchildren: Ava Block, Weston Block & McKenna Pudlas.
A funeral service will be held at South Abbotsford M. B. Church, 32424 Huntingdon Road, Abbotsford, on Thursday, March 24th at 2:00 pm with light refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Katherine’s memory may be directed to B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation; request envelopes to the Vaccine Evaluation Program.
As per Provincial Health order proof of vaccination and masks will be required for the luncheon.
