Tena passed away peacefully at the Menno Hospital surrounded by her children. She is predeceased by her husband Herb, son Bernie Friesen; brothers Paul Penner , Richard Penner; and sister Valida Deptuck. She is survived by sisters Mary Wiederspohn, Helen Dueck, Agnes Dueck, Betty Epp; brother Henry Penner; daughter Irene (Marvin) Rud; sons Daniel (Barb) Friesen, Robert (Doreen) Friesen, Richard (Mei-Yun) Friesen; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Tena was born in Neuendorf, Russia and immigrated with her parents to Saskatchewan at age one and a half. Growing up in Waldheim Saskatchewan, she attended Carmen School and in 1942 she married Herb Friesen who would be her soulmate for the next 67 years. They homesteaded in northern Saskatchewan, and worked in the Niagara region of Ontario, before settling in the Fraser Valley in Aldergrove. Together built a house, carved a beautiful farm out of the dense forest and raised a family of 5 children. Herb and Tena retired to a comfortable home in Clearbrook while pursuing their love of travel before age took them to the Menno Home in Abbotsford.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Jan. 11, 2013 at the Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2597 Bourquin Cres. E., Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mennonite Benevolent Society, or the Calvin Presbyterian Church.
