Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Lesley Maria Dunbar, a woman whose warmth, kindness, and love touched the lives of everyone she met. Born in Hertfordshire, England, Lesley brought a piece of her homeland with her when she immigrated to Canada in 1969, and it wasn't long before she built a new life filled with love, family, and dedication.
In 1972, Lesley married Ken, and together they welcomed two beautiful children, Jason and Jill. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, and she instilled in her children the values of compassion, hard work, and love. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in every milestone they achieved.
For over 25 years, Lesley served as a school secretary in Mission, where she was more than just an administrator—she was a friend, a confidante, and a guiding light to students, parents, and staff alike. Her dedication to her work and her ability to make everyone feel seen and heard earned her the respect and affection of the entire community. Her retirement in 2012 was a well-deserved break, but it also marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
In her retirement, Lesley poured her energy into her passion for gardening, nurturing her plants with the same love and care she gave to her family. Her garden became a reflection of her soul—beautiful, vibrant, and full of life. Travel was another one of Lesley's passions. She had a special place in her heart for destinations like Mexico and Hawaii, where she found joy in new experiences and cultures. These adventures brought her family even closer together as they explored the world and created lasting memories.
Lesley's passing on August 25th at the age of 78 leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved her. She may be gone, but her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched. Her husband Ken, her children Jason and Jill, her granddaughter Ryan, and her daughter-in-law Erin will deeply miss her loving presence, her laughter, and her unwavering support.
As we say goodbye to Lesley, we take comfort in the memories we shared with her. We remember her strength, her kindness, and her infectious smile. We honor her life by continuing to live out the lessons she taught us—lessons of love, family, and the importance of cherishing every moment.
Lesley may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. Her love, her light, and her spirit will continue to guide us. Rest in peace, Mom. Your family and friends will miss you dearly, but your memory will remain a blessing to us all.
A visitation for Lesley will be held Friday, September 5, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, BC V2T2X5.
