The visit to a National Parc and a Orca show also made e big impression. We spent a very nice time with Aunt Magda, Uncle Piet and cousins.

My memories of sweet, positive Aunt Magda are the nice, pleasant moments that she visited her family in Holland. My parents, of which my mother Annie is aunt Magda's 3-year younger sister, traveled to Canada with my sister Pauline and I, accompanied by their (all now deceased) brother Gerrit and his wife Lenie, their brother Herm and wife Co the summer of 1973 to visit Aunt Magda, Uncle Piet and children in Abbotsford. There we did fun trips together, including Vancouver Island. Pauline and I especially liked the round swimming pool in the garden and the Pool table at their house.
My mother Annie is now 91 years old. She has a strange feeling that she is the last alive of a large family consisting of the late 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
Jack, Pauline, Randy and further family, we are with you in our thoughts. Lots of love from Aunt Annie (see photo) and Ans.

I remember my tante (aunt) Magda since I met her at the airport when she visited the family in the Netherlands, in the early 60's.  All family members with the name Magdalena, which also was the name of my grandmother (tante Magda's own mother) were in a photo. After that time, I met her several times, sometimes with oom (uncle) Piet, sometimes with one of the children. She also wrote in my 'poesiealbum', a friendship book, being my aunt from distant Canada... 
I include a photo that I have found in the album of my late mother, Tiny, she was her youngest sister. The photo shows tante Magda with my parents, in the 70's. Tante Magda, rest in peace, farewell!

In 2010 I was for the first time in Canada during the Olympics in Vancouver. During the last week of the Olympics I visited my tante Magda in Abbotsford. My father,  also Paul van der Meer was the brother of tante Magda, also  he wanted to visit his beloved sister in Canada once. Unfortunately he got very ill and passed away in 1980 without being able  to visit his sister in Canada. It was very important for me to  do what could not be done by my father. I will never forget this week with my beloved tante Magda and we were able to speak about many memories from her about her days in Holland, the first difficult years in Canada, her joy about her children Jack, Pauline en Randy and all her grandchildren and of cause her good memories of ome Piet.  I also went to the cemetery with her to see the place where ome Piet was buried and where Tante Magda also will be buried next Tuesday. In 2014  I was in Canada for the second time together with Carin, my wife. And of course we visited tante Magda ( and Randy who was there also) in the Menno Home where she lived at that time because of her illness. Nevertheless she was very positive about her situation and very thankfull and was a "very sweet old lady"  even telling jokes. From that visit  we both keep very good memories !!
During this roundtrip in Canada we were also able to visit Jack and Dolores at their place and met Pauline and Ernie in Jasper.
We experienced a lot of hospitality from the whole family. We are not able to join you during the funeral but wil be there in our thoughts. Big hug to all of you   !!!!!   Paul & Carin
